THE £106K PORSCHE CAYENNE GTS NOW HAS 493BHP AND A SOFTER CHASSIS

In this week’s Porsche update, the mid-range Cayenne GTS and GTS Coupe have been given a big overhaul, including more standard equipment from entry, a more refined chassis setup and even more power. More is better after all.

Let’s start with that powertrain, which Porsche has tweaked so it now provides 493bhp (an increase of 39bhp) and 487lb ft of torque (an increase of 29 torques). These numbers will continue to travel through the same eight-speed ‘Tiptronic S’ transmission, though Porsche says it has now been improved for quicker response and shift times.

The all-wheel-drive system has also seen a slight fettle, with the transfer box and independent water cooling units taken directly from the range-topping Turbo GT to provide more stability. The result of all this change? A 0-62mph sprint in around 4.4s and a limited top speed of 171mph. Not bad for an office block on wheels.

Do you also notice anything different about said office… externally? Correct! It has indeed been lowered slightly (by 10 millimetres). Less obvious changes include a few extra bits for the chassis from the get-go, including adaptive air suspension, active suspension management and torque vectoring. But why does Canary Wharf need torque vectoring, you may wonder? That’s because these upgrades should contribute positively to the GTS’ standing as the, er, grand tourer of the range.

And given this is meant to be the most long-distance-y model, the interior must’ve seen some improvement to counterbalance the more focused mechanical upgrades, right? Correct again! The big headline change is a curved digital instrument cluster from entry with the option of a passenger-side display. Porsche will even throw in a Bose audio system and ambient lighting if you tell its salespeople how much you appreciate office architecture.

Shall we draw the curtains on some more exterior changes? The front end benefits from bigger air intakes while the darker tints across both light clusters and badging make it look a touch more assertive. Red brake calipers, totally conspicuous 21in RS Spyder alloys and a gloss black finish across the bumpers and skirts complete the look.

The updated Cayenne GTS - including its Coupe variant - are now available for order in the UK at a starting price of £106,100, with deliveries set to commence this summer.
