DON’T FANCY A NEW G-WAGEN? THE EMC 250GD WOLF COULD BE YOUR CALLING

With news of the facelifted, second-generation G-Wagen fresh in our minds, New Jersey-based Expedition Motor Company has responded with its alternative. And it comes from 34 years ago.

Based on the 1990 G-Wagen, this is the EMC 250GD Wolf, and it has a removable hard-top and a gorgeous shade of China Blue applied across the exterior to pose as a back-to-basics option for would-be buyers.

The Wolf has been through an extensive restoration process, part of which involves the integration of new fuel lines, body mounts, axles and brakes. But beyond just substituting worn parts, EMC has replaced the original suspension with its own in-house kit. So yes, some of it is actually new.

The retro cabin has had a fair amount of attention, too, with everything from the upholstery and fabrics to the dials and switchgear receiving a full treatment worthy of The Repair Shop. You also get a small aftermarket multimedia unit positioned above a rather fetching wooden cupholder, putting more distance between it and the original car.

Open up the polished engine bay and you unearth a 2.5-litre inline-five diesel unit, which is expected to transfer around 93bhp and 117lb ft of torque to the road through a five-speed automatic transmission. Doesn't sound like a lot these days, does it?

“The G-Wagen's design has remained largely unchanged for decades, making it one of the few vehicles with such a long production run featuring minimal design alterations," said company founder Alex Levin.

“In our pursuit of providing diverse customisation options, we continuously push the boundaries to meet evolving consumer demands. Introducing the new ABS Hardtop is a perfect example, offering versatility to our clients across the globe. Rain or shine, no matter where you live, this vehicle can be enjoyed.”

Interested? It’ll only set you back a minimum of £130,000.
